Maria Sultan (ماريه سلطان), is a Pakistanipolitical scientist, defense Analyst, television personality and the Director General of the South Asian Strategic Stability Institute (SASSI) which is a London-based institute with a subsidiary office in Islamabad, Pakistan since 2008.[2][3]

Career

In the past, her media work has also included time as an anchor person in Pakistan's political television and radio programmes.[4]

Maria Sultan focuses on issues regarding nuclear issues and strategic stability. She told the Pakistani news media in Islamabad in 2008 that Pakistan's nuclear assets are not one man's property. A high-powered committee, called the National Command Authority, chaired by the Prime Minister of Pakistan and includes the chiefs of the army, navy and air force, has the custodial control on Pakistan's nuclear assets.[2][1]

Maria Sultan has been affiliated with the Government of Pakistan, specifically serving as a civilian war strategist at the Ministry of Defence.[1][4]

Maria Sultan has also been actively involved with many Pakistani institutions. She is on the list of visiting faculty members/speakers at Foreign Service Academy, Islamabad, National Defence University, Pakistan, Pakistan Naval War College. She also is a guest lecturer at Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad and at Command and Staff College, Quetta.[1]

SASSI University

In 2015, a South Asian Strategic Stability Institute (SASSI) University (also known by the short name as Sassi University) was launched in Islamabad with Maria Sultan as University Chairperson.[5]
